Doodle Ink To Illustrator

Mix Artwork

Doodling is still one of my favourite ways to get lost in my own head. In this period of my life, I was so excited to begin building the habit of reading and practicing yoga. I drew this out as my book mark so I could see it everyday and feel motivated to do theses activities.

Good news, these habits is something I do practice most of the time so it definitely worked. In 2015 I doodled the design on paper, my colleague Michael saw it and suggested the idea of illustrating it in Adobe Illustrator.

I thought of it and decided to give it try. It took me about 5 years to complete this piece of art because I fell into the pattern of laziness and unmotivated to complete and just got distracted with other projects.

During those five years my Adobe Illustration skills improved especially when I had to do icons for HR Focus systems. The way my skills improved was understanding the way to trace over the pixel lines, using shapes to get smoother lines and the shortcuts.

I finally completed the tracing and was so proud of myself. It was time to add colour but what colours to choose? I found this course on The Futur called Color for Creatives by Greg Gunn.

The course was a recap of colour and the basics. I learnt that colour can tell you story and can effect your mood. Let’s just say that colour is a very powerful tool.

I started with black and white palette with some shades of grey. Once those colours were placed, adding the other colours were easy as I would just select the same fill in colour and change it from there.

I do believe there is still a lot for me to learn about colour and that I’m still on this journey.
