My first challenge of Inktober wasn’t easy but I was able to complete it with a smile on my face.

Last year I did attempt it but with poor planning, I failed and only completed one week. This year I made it a priority by planning and taking action.

My first day of the challenge we drove down to Durban. A week before I was so excited to start the challenge that I decided to do pencil sketches for at least for 10 prompts. This helped a lot as all I needed to do was ink and post it on Instagram.

From the first 10 prompts my favourite prompt would be the Day 9 Pressure prompt. I like it because of the illusion of something getting squashed like tomato sauce.

I almost missed posting on the last day of our holiday Day 8 because I just ran out of data, but luckily I was able to post it when we got home. I was strong and kept going even during that weekend home.

Sour day 11 prompt was a fun sketch, my reference was a lemon that was already a sketch. I wanted to be able to copy the lemon as it was, using the same lines and tones. The best practice is copying other artist work.

Back to work, I thought I would fall behind but I made a rule at 6pm Monday to Thursday I would do my challenge for the day, Fridays were a bit difficult but I managed to complete it somehow. The weekends, I found myself slacking to do it, I suppose do it in the morning but some mornings I just didn’t get a chance.

Day 19 loop was a fun prompt, it made me think of sewing and knitting wool. I like adding the dots to the loops to show the shadows and light of the loops.

There was one day I missed to post, I believe I did complete the drawing I just forgot to post it.

My favourite was Day 21 Fuzzy, I loved this puppy and how cute it looks. Every time look at this puppy drawing, it just makes my heart melt. Adorable…

Overall the challenge was fun and exciting. The reason I wanted to do this challenge was to help me get into the habit of drawing but somehow that never workout. I will definitely do it again next year.
